Be Your Own Chief Energy Officer - Part Two

Oct 29, 2025

In the age of AI, while we train our machines to learn and adapt, many of us are (not so) quietly burning out.

According to Gallup’s 2025 Global Workplace Report, only 21% of employees worldwide feel genuinely engaged in their work. In Europe, engagement drops to 13% and in the UK, it’s as low as 10%. Read that again!

Meanwhile, stress and burnout remain at record highs, with nearly half of employees saying they experience daily stress.

When people feel disconnected, drained, or constantly “on,” both performance and wellbeing suffer and so does culture.

That’s why this shift matters. The future of leadership isn’t about managing time, but mastering energy and nervous system regulation.

It’s about becoming your own Chief Energy Officer.

The Simplicity on the Other Side of Complexity

If performance and wellbeing were easy, we’d all be thriving. But knowing and doing are not the same. We all know what helps us yet common knowledge isn’t common practice.

Who hasn’t bought kale with the best intentions, only to find it two weeks later, liquefied at the back of the fridge? Knowledge isn’t the issue. Action is.

And when you’re already overwhelmed and exhausted, the last thing you need is more complexity. So I make it simple.

The ABC Framework

I use my ABC framework to help people anchor easy, energising habits that make a real difference, without adding pressure or guilt.

A — Assess

B — Behaviour Design

C — Celebrate

A: Assess

It’s easier to make conscious change when you can see what’s really going on.

That’s where the Wellculator™ comes in - my quick and powerful wellbeing snapshot that helps you identify exactly where stress is draining you and where small shifts will create big gains.

It takes less than five minutes, quicker than scrolling Instagram, and infinitely better for your wellbeing. You simply answer 24 easy yes/no questions and that’s it.

When you’re done, you’ll receive a clear Red / Amber / Green assessment of four key lifestyle factors:

  • Recharge – how well rested you are
  • Nourish – how well fuelled you are
  • Thrive – how well minded you are
  • Move – how well fit you are

You’ll get immediate access to your results and practical guidance on what to do about any Amber or Red areas, so you can start improving your energy and performance right away.

“The Wellculator helps you know exactly what to do, today, to shift from stress into calm and alert, and to feel empowered as you do it.”

Armed with this knowledge, you’ll begin to feel: Well rested. Well fuelled. Well minded. Well fit. Thousands of leaders, teams, and individuals have already taken it. I use it myself regularly.

B: Behaviour Design

Once you’ve got your Wellculator results, the next step is to design your W.E.D.G.E. habit — one that is:

Works Easy Delivers results Good for you Enjoyable

Just as the thin edge of a wedge can hold open a heavy door or split open a log, your wedge habit creates momentum. It opens the flow for other supportive behaviours and helps you break through procrastination, resistance, or confusion.

When I work with audiences, whether it’s a 45-minute keynote for hundreds of leaders or a half-day masterclass with a senior team, we always work through this process together.

By the end, everyone leaves with one clear action they can take immediately. Something small, specific, and realistic yet powerful enough to shift their energy, focus, or wellbeing straight away.

And that’s the beauty of it: when you act on one small thing, it nearly always leads to bigger things.

“Small hinges swing big doors.”

Those micro-actions ripple outward, sparking better habits, healthier cultures, and more energised leadership.

C: Celebrate

Both neuroscience and behavioural science agree: we change most when we feel good, not when we feel guilty.

Celebration acts like fertiliser for habits.

Every time you acknowledge even the tiniest win, your brain releases dopamine, reinforcing the behaviour and making it more likely you’ll do it again. What we repeat, we become.

“Feeling good while you’re doing something is the chemistry of sustainable change.”

Change Your Chemistry, Change Your Story

Behaviour change isn’t only about what you do. It’s also about what you believe is possible.

When you change your daily chemistry, you start changing your story. And when you change your story, you open the possibility for a different future.

This isn’t magic. It’s neuroscience. Neurons that fire together wire together. You promote neuroplasticity, helping you step into a new reality.

“Your personality determines your reality. Shift your identity, and you will shift your reality.”

Imagine a workplace — and a world — where more of us are

Calm and alert. Energised and engaged. Not just aligned with Artificial Intelligence, but with our own Ancient Intelligence.

That’s the power of Performance Chemistry.

Now it’s your turn. Take the Wellculator™, find out your score, and let it show you where small shifts will create big gains.

And if you want to take this further, to embed these principles across your team or organisation, let's chat about how I can contribute. Together, we’ll build a culture of sustainable performance where energy, engagement, and excellence thrive.

Because when you become your own Chief Energy Officer, you change more than your day - you change your culture.
